Our Adoption Process
We pride ourselves on our match-based adoption process.
Upon receiving an approved adoption application, our adoption counselors spend quality time with each adopter to ensure they are getting a pet that will be a perfect fit for their family and lifestyle. After your meet-and-greet, if you have found a match you’d like to move forward with, our staff will schedule a home visit/in-home adoption.
All KC PAWS dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and microchipped at the time of adoption. Our adoption kits include a leash and collar, a starter amount of food, and a few toys and treats for your new best friend.
We remain a resource to all of our adopted dogs throughout the remainder of their lives. We provide in-home training services. Our pet services are always available to all of our adopted alumni.
Adoption Fees
Why Do We Charge Adoption Fees?
We understand that some municipal shelters occasionally offer reduced or waived adoption fees, and we love seeing more pets find homes. As a small, private nonprofit rescue, however, adoption fees are an important part of sustaining our lifesaving mission.
Unlike city-funded shelters, KC PAWS relies almost entirely on adoption fees, donations, grants, and community support to provide medical care, food, enrichment, and daily care for every dog we rescue. Before adoption, each dog receives comprehensive veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, deworming, and any additional medical treatment they may need.
While an adoption fee covers only a portion of what we invest in each dog, it helps ensure we can continue saying "yes" to the next dog in need. When you adopt from KC PAWS, you're not only welcoming a new family member—you’re helping make another rescue possible.
Our fees vary from$150- $300 depending on the amount of veterinary care the dog received while in our care.
