Help build the Future of KC PAWS
For nearly 20 years, KC PAWS has fought for dogs that others couldn't—or wouldn't—help. We've welcomed victims of cruelty and neglect, cared for dogs with complex medical and behavioral needs, and stood by those who simply needed more time to find the right family.
Now, we're building a home that will help us do even more.
Our new Raytown facility isn't just a new address—it's an investment in every dog who will walk through our doors. With multiple play yards, dedicated quiet spaces for decompression, room to expand lifesaving programs, and a facility designed specifically for rescue, we'll be able to provide a higher quality of care while preparing for the future of KC PAWS.
But before our dogs can call it home, we have work to do.
Every donation helps transform this building into a place where frightened dogs can feel safe, neglected dogs can begin to heal, and thousands of future rescue stories can begin.
This isn't just a renovation.
It's the foundation for the next chapter of lifesaving.
Help us build their future.
Our Mission :
We rescue dogs from cruelty and neglect and connect them with people to provide their forever home so both can have a happier healthier life.
Saving the Dogs Others Leave Behind
At KC PAWS, we believe every dog deserves a chance — especially the ones who have been neglected, abused, abandoned, or simply overlooked. From emergency rescues to sanctuary dogs, we’re committed to giving each one the time, care, and compassion they need to heal.
More Than A Rescue
Lakona: Before and After
Since 2007, we've been committed to saying "yes" to the dogs who need us most—even when their journey takes longer than expected. We don't measure success by how quickly a kennel empties. We measure it by every life transformed, every fearful tail that starts to wag again, and every dog who finally finds the family they were always meant to have.
Because every dog deserves someone willing to fight for them.
And that's exactly what we do.
Our Promise
Every dog deserves safety, compassion, and a chance at a better life. At KC PAWS, we promise to provide exceptional care, make thoughtful match-based adoption decisions, and never give up on the dogs who need us most. We are committed to treating every animal with kindness, operating with integrity, and building a stronger community through rescue, education, and advocacy.
Because to us, every life is worth saving.
Featured Dogs of the Month
Sriracha
Sriracha is a 11-month-old beagle–terrier mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality. Weighing in at around 21 pounds, this sweet, goofy boy is still learning the ropes of indoor life after coming from a hoarding situation where he lived primarily outdoors. Because of that, everything is a little new to him—but he’s making steady progress every day. Sriracha can be a bit shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and playful nature really shines through. He absolutely loves people and will happily soak up attention, leaning into pets and showing off his silly side. His goofy charm makes him impossible not to smile around. To help him continue building confidence, Sriracha will need a home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog. Having a canine companion helps him feel secure and gives him a role model as he learns what it means to be a beloved indoor pet. With patience, love, and a consistent routine, Sriracha is going to blossom into an amazing companion.

Flint
Meet Flint! 🐾 Flint's story didn't start the way he deserved. After his family went through a divorce, he was surrendered because neither person could keep him. In an instant, the only life he knew disappeared. Confused, heartbroken, and scared, Flint arrived in foster care terrified of the world around him. But Flint's story didn't end there—it was just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter. With the patience and love of his amazing foster mom and the encouragement of his playful furry foster siblings, Flint has blossomed into a joyful, affectionate, fun-loving pup. Every day, his confidence grows a little more, and it's been incredible to watch him discover that the world can be a safe, happy place. Today, Flint is full of life! He loves to play, has plenty of energy, and is always ready for a game of chase or wrestling with his canine friends. Once he trusts you, he's incredibly sweet and affectionate, and his happy personality shines through. Flint would thrive in a home that can match his playful spirit. He'd especially love a family with another friendly, energetic dog who would enjoy having a built-in best friend. Having a confident canine companion has made all the difference for Flint, and we know he'd continue to flourish with a buddy by his side. Flint has already proven how resilient his heart is. All he's missing now is a forever family that will choose him—and keep choosing him—for the rest of his life. If you're looking for a loyal companion, a playful sidekick, and a dog whose love is truly worth earning, Flint is waiting to meet you.

Quill
Quill came to us July 2021 from a neglect case. He had a collar embedded in his neck. Quill can be apprehensive of strangers but loves our team. His favorite activities include playing catch me if you can, dissecting stuffed animals, and car rides. His favorite time of year is when he gets to go for car rides to see Christmas lights. He also loves rain and snow!

Roy Kent
Sanctuary Dog By Choice.
Roy's Story
Roy is one of the most unique dogs you'll ever meet. If you spent just a few minutes with him, you'd probably wonder why he hasn't been adopted. He's incredibly social, well-mannered, and loves everyone he meets.
The truth is, Roy has been adopted and returned multiple times. Each time, he did everything he could to find his way back to KC PAWS—breaking through windows, escaping from homes, and even once slipping away during a walk and running all the way back to our facility, where he waited patiently at our front door.
After listening to Roy, we realized something important: KC PAWS isn't just where he stayed while waiting for a family. It is his family.
Today, Roy is one of our beloved sanctuary dogs. He spends his days greeting visitors, soaking up attention, and reminding us that every dog defines "home" a little differently. While many dogs dream of finding a forever family, Roy already has his—and we're honored to be it.
What Is a Sanctuary Dog?
A sanctuary dog is a dog who remains in the care of KC PAWS long-term because a suitable adoptive home has not yet been found, or because their medical, behavioral, or emotional needs make placement especially challenging. While we never stop searching for the right family, these dogs receive lifelong love, enrichment, veterinary care, and a safe place to call home for as long as they need us.
At KC PAWS, being a sanctuary dog doesn't mean they've been forgotten—it means they've been promised they never have to face the future alone.
Help Sustain Our Sanctuary Dogs
Our sanctuary dogs rely on consistent, lifelong care—and that care is only possible because of compassionate supporters like you. The most impactful way to support our Sanctuary Program is by joining our PAWS Pack, our monthly giving community. Your recurring gift provides dependable funding for food, medical care, enrichment, and everything our sanctuary dogs need to live happy, healthy lives for as long as they're with us.
Together, we can keep our promise to every dog who calls KC PAWS home.
